  12. Okay, now that *some* of the excitement about the Finale has slowed down
  13. a bit, I thought that I would post my small tribute to the Star Trek 
  14. characters as created by Gene Roddenberry.  For those of you who have 
  15. been around awhile, you might remember my previous posting of Sonnets
  16. to the Classic Trek Crew.
  17.  
  18. These are written as Shakespearean Sonnets and as acrostics as well.
  19. For those who don't know what an acrostic is, the first letter of each
  20. line spells out the title.
  21.  
  22. Why would I do this?  Well, I am a sucker for punishment and figured
  23. if I was going to write *something*, it might as well be the most
  24. difficult thing I could imagine.  :-)  Besides, once I got started
  25. on these things (via a contest sponsored by Isaac Asimov a looong time
  26. ago), I found myself adicted to them.  It is also my way of saying
  27. Thank You to the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

  34.       CAPTAIN J. PICARD

  37.           Commanding voice rings out "Worf, hold your fire."
  38.           As enemies have them in jeopardy,
  39.           Puts everything on hold and then retires
  40.           To calmly drink a cup of Earl Grey tea.
  41.  
  42.           And if there is a problem to be solved,
  43.           Input from all his officers demands.
  44.           No matter just how many are involved
  45.           Jean-Luc is still the one who's in command.
  46.  
  47.       Propriety may make him seem quite dull.
  48.           Instead of action, he's a thinking man.
  49.           Can often get inside another's skull
  50.           And figure out just what might be their plan.

  52.          Revere with me this Captain, loyal, true.

  74.     Respectful, sensitive; a New Age guy
  75.     Intelligent and still he does neglect
  76.     Kinship with his Imzadi, standing by.

  79.               Riker and Kirk are centuries apart.

  148.     Embraced by science and technology.

  150.     Resplendent, he sees more than you or me.

  152.     Geordi never seems to get the girl 
  153.     Except the ones within his fantasy.
  154.     Obvious what sets his heart awhirl
  155.     Real love for engines takes priority.

  158.               Industrious, he always makes it so.

  174.     Rare beauty.  She is simply not the norm.
  175.     Bests the others in her dancing skill
  176.     Coerces all to entertain, perform.

  179.     Until he doesn't know just where he stands.
  180.     She hasn't made her mind up, if or when
  181.     Her memories too vivid.  They're just friends.
